About
Tawa Anglicans seek to be a welcoming body of believers in the work God is doing, in the world and beyond, in and through Jesus Christ.
We are a diverse and inclusive group of ordinary people, caring for and supporting each other and our community, following and trusting in an extraordinary God, led by God’s Spirit to foster God’s mission in the world, to serve in love, to reconcile and heal.
As Anglicans, we hold to the core creedal statements of the ancient church but we recognise and accept that Christians throughout the ages have a variety of views on many second-order issues. We don’t expect agreement among ourselves on all these points; rather we welcome the diversity it creates and the opportunity to build unity across difference. We see this as a prophetic model for the small and large communities of which we’re part.
We believe in God as revealed in Sacred Scripture and in the Tradition of the Church: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Three-in-One. A God who is Love, whose face is forever turned to us, who is for us and with us and inviting us to participate in God’s great restoring, reconciling and healing work in humanity, and in all creation.
Along with the very earliest recorded preaching of the church, we proclaim that in the Resurrection, God has begun his restoring and reconciling work, that Jesus Christ has been made Lord and King of creation. We seek to follow him in living according to the values of the Gospels and the Kingdom God is creating among us; a world characterised by peace, unity, non-violence, inclusion and love.
Whoever you are, and whatever needs or contribution you bring, you are welcome as you are, welcome to join us on this journey of love and faith.
We are not an independent church but the expression in Tawa of the Anglican Diocese of Wellington led by the Bishop of Wellington, under whose authority we sit. We seek to live the ‘Five Marks of Mission’ of the International Anglican Communion:
The mission of the Church is the mission of Christ

The mission of the Church is the mission of Christ
- To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
- To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
- To respond to human need by loving service
- To transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation
- To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth
